![]() ![]() Both NordVPN and TorGuard have app killswitches which are good for torrenting. NordVPN has a lot of frills (Anti-DDOS, Onion over VPN, etc) but I don't really see myself using those. In my opinion, PIA would probably have the least amount of blacklisted/bot-associated IPs, and NordVPN would have the most due to the ability to choose your own server. PIA and TorGuard have 7 day MBG, but NordVPN has a 31 day MBG. All the other services have general server selections that determine the server for you (eg. NordVPN is the only VPN provider which allows you to choose your own VPN servers, but beware, it's hit and miss: even though a server had low load (<15%) and was close to me (<200mi), sometimes the speed was slow (<10Mbps). NordVPN works with Netflix USA, PIA does not, TorGuard does only if you pay ~$27 USD (after 50% discount) per year for a dedicated streaming IP on top of your VPN subscription (does add up to a lot!). NordVPN: $19.80 USD/year, 3 year subscription 99.00 USD/3 years - 40% ebates cash back 1 year price: $48 USD/ year - 40% ebates = 28.80 USD/year TorGuard: $25 USD/year, 2 year subscription 49.99 USD/2 years 1 year price: $30 USD/ year PIA: $29.99 USD/year, 1 year subscription ![]() I was curious and just plugged them in to, feel free to interpret my results. The torrent was allowed to run for 1 minute on one 1.1GB file.ġst notch represents 2.4 MBps, 2nd notch represents 4.9 MBps, 3rd notch represents 7.4MBps, 4th notch represents 9.7MBps. Tests were done with a private torrent with ~4 seeders with combined upload >12MBps, testing both connection speed and ability to connect to peers. NordVPN wins here, though Torguard is a close runner-up. Test 1: Google speed test comparison ProviderĪll 3 providers have pretty similar speeds. Here are my results (Tests done with "best" server as chosen by VPN client or closest to my place): All of these were done with the provider's recommended settings from my consumer's perspective. Note that I'm not a pro at stuff like protocols and encryption etc. I tried Private Internet Access, TorGuard, and NordVPN first. I was looking for a VPN mainly dedicated to speed and anonymity, with price being a big factor. ![]()
